FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ANGIE HANAN ANNOUNCES RE-ELECTION BID FOR FBISD BOARD OF TRUSTEES

Building on experience with a focus on continued commitment to expanding student

opportunities

Fort Bend County, July 21, 2026 - Fort Bend ISD Board of Trustees member Angie Hanan

announced she is seeking re-election to the Board for a third term, renewing her commitment

to serving students, families, educators and the entire FBISD community.

“It is my honor to serve as an elected school board trustee of the sixth largest school district in

the state of Texas,” Hanan said. “It requires the full and shared focus of every board member,

alongside the superintendent and his staff, to provide stellar learning experiences and outcomes

for every child in a safe and welcoming environment. I look forward to continuing this work with

fellow board members to provide governance and oversight, and build community trust. My

focus is on the FBISD family.”

Hanan knows that serving as a trustee is both a privilege and a responsibility, and local school

boards are a cornerstone of public education. The Texas Association of School Boards explains:

“Our system of local school districts and boards of education epitomizes representative and

participatory government — citizens elected from their community making decisions about

educational programs based on community needs, values, and expectations. School boards are

entrusted by the public to translate the needs of students into policies, plans, and goals that will

be supported by the community.”

A longtime educator, parent and community volunteer, Hanan has focused her first two terms as

a trustee on student success, strong governance and ensuring every child has access to a safe

and welcoming learning environment. During her tenure, she has supported efforts to increase

reading and math growth, expand innovative programming and strengthen student

opportunities.

Preliminary state accountability results show remarkable gains by students in grades three

through eight — outperforming the state and region in reading — and many campuses have

exceptional growth across two or more tested areas. The results also show College, Career,

Military Readiness scores are fast approaching 90 percent, meeting the board goal for CCMR

improvement in the district strategic plan.

Upcoming initiatives that Hanan championed include the district’s first Chinese Language

Immersion Program at Colony Meadows Elementary and a Spanish Dual Language Program at

Colony Bend Elementary. Hanan also supported the 2023 community-approved Voter Approval

Tax Rate Election (VATRE), which provided much-needed funding for campus security personnel,

bus driver raises and a teacher compensation structure including differentiated steps to reward

longevity and retain experienced, outstanding educators. Because of this innovative pay

strategy, the district continues to exceed the market for teachers with more years of tenure.

The Texas legislature's funding for traditional public schools has not kept pace with

inflation creating budgeting challenges for many traditional public school districts across the

state, including FBISD. For the upcoming school year, Hanan voted to approve the budget which

includes starting pay increases for bus drivers and bus monitors and a one-time thank-you

supplement to full-time and part-time employees. Hanan noted, "The board must continue to

engage in legislative advocacy to promote increased funding to provide competitive salaries for

staff members who support our students inside and outside of the classrooms."

“Whether I’m watching our fine arts students perform, viewing the drawings, paintings and

sculptures created by our visual artists, listening to presentations from student leaders and

scholars, cheering on students competing academically or athletically, or congratulating

students as they graduate — I carry their proud smiles with me. They are my why.”

After earning her Master of Education from the University of Houston, Hanan spent her career

serving public education as a classroom teacher, literacy specialist and coach, ESL coordinator

and educational consultant. She and her husband, Tom, are 33-year residents of FBISD and

proud parents of an FBISD graduate.

“Getting to know so many wonderful students, families and educators during my time in this

district has been a true gift,” Hanan said. “I am humbly seeking a third term to continue serving

this beautifully diverse community and working together to provide exceptional opportunities

for every child.”
